As I write to you, I have a hot cup of coffee beside me and I’ve just devoured a delicious Viennese whirl.  I hope you are as relaxed and comfortable as I am.  Lord, multiply the blessing!

Prayer is the realm of my King where he reigns and rules.  It’s a holy, hushed place where the Lord’s majesty and might are revealed.  Yet, it is also a place of intimacy where I enjoy true friendship with Jesus and worship my Bridegroom King.  As I experience God’s love afresh my heart is overwhelmed and almost explodes with joy and gratitude for my salvation. It’s where I pray the Scriptures back to Christ and gain wisdom, understanding and revelation of God’s nature, his character, his ways and his Word.  I lose myself and live to give, finding courage in the Cross.

Prayer is the place where two kingdoms clash – the kingdom of darkness and the Kingdom of Light, where Jesus is victorious by His blood.  It’s where battles are fought and won, sometimes immediately and at other times over a longer period.  The answer always comes eventually because Jesus is faithful.  In prayer the Holy Spirit inspires me to bring my loved ones to Father, and experience the Lord’s compassion and concern as his words and tears flow through me birthing Kingdom destinies and deliverance.

We are a holy priesthood and holy priests are made to be on their faces, on the floor, on the pavement, in the nations … prayer has hands and feet and a Voice full of love that belongs in the darkest places speaking Life and Hope.  It’s messy and it’s miraculous. Prayer is where I carry the nations before God’s throne of mercy.  I hear and see and reach out to the faces of fathers, mothers and children and as I listen to my Father’s heartbeat, my soul swells with his compassion and kindness for them. It is both delightful and devastating to proclaim and prophesy the will of God.

Prayer is where I can be honest and real and dealt with when I’m not!  It’s where our family reaches out for each other and to Jesus. It belongs everywhere and in everything.  It finds itself in my housework, in the children’s homework, in the work place, the meeting place and the mission field where Jesus sends me. Whether whispered, groaned, sung or shouted, prayer is my Father at work in the world through his children, changing, challenging, comforting and confronting unrighteousness and injustice.

It’s a thin place; a hard place; a heavenly place; a meeting and a melting place and a place of miracles.  It’s my lifeline and the oxygen of God in me, to me and through me. It’s where the broken and the bruised belong.

Prayer is my resting place where I sometimes run, whilst at other times I can barely crawl to meet my Messiah.

What does prayer mean to you?

Blessings

Catherine
