Godfrey Birtill was born in Chorley, Lancashire, England UK. His family has Moravian roots dating back to the early 1700's including Moravian hymn writer James Montgomery (Angels from the realms of glory) being one of his ancestors.

He is married to Gill, has 4 children and lives in Lincoln UK and is based at New Life Church.   It has been said that Godfrey's unique 'minstrel ability', blending worship and intercession, is in part an inheritance from his Moravian roots. In the Moravians church history is the '100 year prayer meeting' and they were also a major influence to John Wesley, who visited Count Zinzendorf so a season.

Many of his songs like, 'Outrageous Grace', and 'When I look at the blood', have a prophetic edge to them and can now be found being sung as part of worship in Churches around the country and beyond.  Much of Godfrey’s ministry is connected to 'grass roots' city prayer gatherings across the denominations.

In Godfrey’s own words

Intercession is to go between, or stand in the gap, sometimes on behalf of others as well as ourselves. It may be to repent for sin that has defiled the city or area or to call for His kingdom ways. The focus being outward to see healing and reconciliation in the land. Prayer is to petition; it is communion with God, the focus may be personal, inward or outward. Prayer is our conversation with God, our building relationship with him.
